Mcdowell Endowment Announces $53300 in Grants to Nonprofits

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina will get $2,000 to help with its mentoring program, while the Black Mountain Counseling Center will get $5,000 to provide mental health services to people with low incomes, reports the Asheville Citizen-Times.

The news comes via the McDowell Endowment, which recently awarded $53,300 in grants.

"We hope that we can fund more programs with more dollars each year, which is why we continue to grow the fund," says Ryan Kelley, chair of the endowment's advisory board.

Among the recipients: East Marion Pentecostal Church Holiness Church/East Marion I en Espa ? o to provide transportation for bilingual students to attend classes.

$4300 to McDowell Arts Council to teach public elementary students to teach lock and smoke detectors.

$5,000 to Mercy Fund Animal Rescue to provide veterinary care for pets of people with low incomes.$5,000 to Mission Ministries Alliance for food and essential supplies for an overnight homeless shelter.

$5,000 to HOPE serving domestic violence and sexual assault victims.

$4,300 to Black Mountain Counseling Center to provide mental health services to people with low incomes.

$4,500 to Centro CareReach for outreach events that help residents access health information, resources, and services.$2,500 to Unido Latino-Americano to provide crisis assistance to people with low incomes. Read the Entire Article
