Cleveland Teens See City with New Eyes through Street Photography

Cleveland's Print Room provides free photography education to about 500 young people every year, and this summer it offered a week-long street photography camp for teens, Cleveland.com reports.

The camp, in partnership with Cuyahoga Community College's Creative Arts Academy, taught teens how to use their instant film cameras to capture images of public spaces.

"I noticed that every time I drew something, it always came from my mind," says 15-year-old Forest Koslow.

"I wanted to be able to capture something that was out of my control, something that I couldn't create without other people and my surroundings."

Lexi Deet, the photographer who taught the camp, says she "fell into" teaching at the program about five years ago, and it's become a passion.

"We're learning how to look at the world and share our perspective," she says.

"So it's really awesome to be able to sort of inspire them and just kind of give them permission to have fun and be creative."

The next free youth summer camp focused on film photography starts July 22.
