One of Vietnam's most well-known companies is taking a stand against climate change.

Shinhan Life, a financial services firm based in the country's commercial capital of Ho Chi Minh City, is among the first to take a stand against global warming, the New York Times reports.

In a statement, the company says it has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by the year 2020 and has set a goal of producing 100% green products by the year 2050.

Shinhan is one of many companies in Vietnam working to make that goal a reality, the Times notes.

The company says it has set aside $805,000 to fund youth-led initiatives aimed at reducing waste, planting trees, and reducing plastic use, among other things.

"We honor our responsibility to Vietnam through both our business and community contributions," says Shinhan's CEO, Nguyen Trong Pawalit, per the Times.

Shinhan is one of several companies in Vietnam working to make the country's economy more sustainable, the Times notes.

In addition to being named one of the Top 10 Most Reputable Companies in High-Tech Agriculture in Vietnam in 2024, Shinhan was also recognized as one of the Top 10 Innovative and Efficient Businesses in Agriculture last year, per the Times
