State grant supports CHLA programs for young adults

A $2 million state grant to Children's Hospital Los Angeles will help more than 8,500 young adults get the health care they need, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The money will go to the hospital's Division of Young Adult and Adolescent Medicine, or DAYAM, which provides services including reproductive health, substance abuse treatment, HIV and STI testing, and care for the LGBTQ community.

"This $2 million support isn't just a financial contribution, it's an investment in the future of our community, a testament to our unwavering belief in the power of medical research and a pledge to provide our youth with the best health services available," says Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo, a Democrat from Los Angeles.

"At the heart of this initiative is our shared goal with Children's Hospital Los Angeles to create hope, foster positive youth development, and build a healthier tomorrow for our children, adolescents and young adults," she adds.

The grant will help expand the hospital's clinical space, which includes seven youth-specific exam rooms, five conference rooms for CHLA-sponsored community and educational events, and a dedicated youth waiting area.

"With help of the funding, CHLA's DAYAM facility will better serve families from under-resourced Los Angeles communities, notably immigrants
